The good thing Sokka/Azula has such a microfandom as it is, is that we know each other quite well. Be it through Deviantart, Livejournal or Fanficiton. We are a small group, but every person I've come to know through all these years has a special spot in my heart. Yesterday, when an author I admire posted an update for her fanfic, I found out that a fellow shipper, Forlorn Maiden, had tragically passed away. I was (still am) in shock. I am writing this with tears in my eyes. She died in October, but I just found out about it when I read that update. I knew her from Fanfiction.net, had a great time sharing reviews with her and even a greater one reading her fanfiction. Overall, she was an Azula fan that loved her character and payed a great tribute to her and Sokka by writing lovely pieces of fanfiction for them. She wrote amazing ficlets for the Sokkla100 challenge and even wrote a fantastic one-shot for a meme I made up in the Capslock_Sokkla community back in the day. It's all a hurtful shock, I still have trouble assuming she isn't here with us anymore. Never knew her outside fandom, but as a reader of her works I feel I knew part of who she was. I would like to pay some tribute to her, I'll see what I can do, because she deserves it.
As Lost in a Darkwood said in her note, "I thought I should acknowledge her passing and my grief at it."
Rest in peace Kathleen. You will be greatly missed.
ETA: My great friend *Saniika made a lovely picture as a memorial for her featuring Sokka and Azula. I think this is a great and admirable thing to do for our friend Maylene (this was her nick in LJ and I always referred to her using that nickname). I am sure she would have loved it, since she also thought that Saniika's artwork is gorgeous.
